Description

After feasting on success in the mid 1960s, fans of Liverpool FC had to wait seven years before they next saw the team win a trophy.
endingBill Shankly broke up his first great side and blended an exciting crop of experienced players together with youngsters that had come through the ranks and been plucked from the lower divisions. They combined perfectly, only to go agonisingly close in 1971 and 1972, when they lost an FA Cup final in extra time and missed out on the title despite winning 13 of their last 15 games.

In 1973 there would be no heartbreak as Liverpool won a third title in 10 years and their first European trophy as Bill Shankly laid the foundations for nearly two decades of dominance. This book which includes anecdotes from fans and players involved, tells the story of this remarkable season, as Liverpool overcame injuries, fixture congestion and bureaucracy to seal the title in their final home game of the season. This led to some of the most emotional scenes ever witnessed at Anfield and the glory continued as they won the EUFA Cup nearly a month later after a nerve wracking final second leg against Borussia Monchengladbach.
